This is a first time pregnancy for me, i have heard many stories from family and i think they are sugar coating everything...i would apreciate it if someone could explain what i am to expect for a natural vaginal delivery. Is it impossible to go through birth without getting any pain meds including an epideral? If so has any first time mothers not used pain meds durring delivery? Im looking for some support!!!
thank you!!!!!!!!

I went through natural vaginal delivery and survived. I would do it again in a heart beat. I never felt like I wanted any pain medication. I was also induced due to toxemia and was on petosin which made the constractions stronger but I was still ok. I was just determined to have a natural vaginal delivery without any pain medication and it worked out great for me. I kept picturing my child's face through the labor and that helped me. I couldn't wait to get the delivery over with so that I could be with my baby. My delivery was quick also, only 5 hours. I remember the nurse telling me that since I was a first-time mom the labor would take about 24 hours. I said "I don't thinks so". I was determine to have my child way sooner and I was not going to be in labor for 24 hours. 5 hours lates my son was born and the doctor barely made it. Delivery is the most amazing thing you can experience I definitely recommend going the natural way.

I think people describe labor as "painful" because there is really no other word they can think of to describe it. I choose to use the word "intense". It's nothing like you've ever felt before...but the body has natural "pain killers" and you don't feel pain giving actual birth...but you will feel pressure.
I, too, had to be induced because of a ripped amniotic sack and no labor. So, I had pitocin, as well...and I did the whole labor and delivery thing (11 hours) without any pain killers/drugs.
What helped me was getting completely familiar with the whole birthing process and having someone with me (my hubby) who studied up on it as well. We prepared, literally, for 7 months. The best book I've ever read was called, "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way". Even if you choose not to use the Bradley method (the best, IMHO) it gives stage by stage labor and delivery information.
IME, a lot of women go into labor with no knowledge of what is to come...and then the fear sets in because they are experiencing something that they've never experienced before. With me...having read all of this information...I knew what to expect and so it flowed much more easily.
I think it is also important for every woman to visualize what kind of birth she wants to have...and to hold onto that vision/desire forth in her mind at all times. It's pretty hard to encounter women who talk how horrible labor and delivery are...and you're 8 months preggers. I would thank them for their information, and then when I was out of the situation, I would sit down and imagine how smoothly and wonderfully my labor/delivery progressed.
A couple of books that really have a lot of information are:
Husband-Coached Childbirth by Dr. Robert Bradley
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way (can't remember the authors)
There's a couple more, but I'll have to dig them out, again.
Remember, labor and delivery does not have to be painful and fearful...but you have to prepare yourself for it just as a marathoner would prepare for a marathon.
Lots of love and positive energy!!
