Breastfeeding and medications

I will post this in the breastfeedig section too.

When I am breastfeeding can I pass simple medications(like antibiotics) onto my newborn? :)4

Right now I have strep-throat and so does my 5 month old baby. Will my baby get the antibiotic action also? :)5

Although it is not to the same degree as when your baby was inside of you, when you are breastfeeding your baby will receive some of the antibotic. However, not to a very large degree. Check with your pediatrician because if you baby has strep throat as well he definitely needs to be on his own anitbiotic to clear it up. Marilyn Padget
